National Parking Platform

Make Parking Simple

Changing the way we park

The National Parking Platform transforms the way we park – creating a joined-up market where parking is simple.

By joining hundreds of parking sites into a single system, and connecting to the apps and payment methods drivers already use, the NPP means:

  • Drivers can pay with their app of choice
  • Parking operators can sell their parking online more easily
  • Innovators can offer better apps and smarter ways to pay
  • Towns and cities can understand parking better and support better local transport

Parking – connected

To make this happen, the NPP brings together:

  • Parking operators of all sizes – from private landowners to local authorities
  • Companies who help users pay for parking – from big parking apps to new innovators
  • Companies who make parking equipment and carry out parking enforcement
  • Organisations that use data to understand transport

By joining up, each of the NPP’s members gets access to a full suite of parking services designed for the digital age.

The NPP started real-world trials in late 2021. This took the underlying concepts and standards, and united them into a working technical system. Over 376,000 parking transactions per month are now handled through the pilot, using five existing apps. In 2023, government funded a system upgrade so that from 2024 it would be ready to operate across the UK.
